Project Profile: Tunica Gin, Tunica, MS
Tunica Gin was a new Lummus cotton gin installation in the mid-1980s. After decades of operation, compartmental upgrades and short-term fixes, its identity as a modern gin was shackled to electrical hardware and controls of the past. Tunica Gin made the bold decision to engage Kelley’s full expertise in a project including both our Industrial and Process Automation divisions.
The well-coordinated project involved weekly progress and planning meetings in a facility-wide replacement of end-of-life MCCs and control consoles for the gin and press processes. Allen Bradley Intellicenter MCCs were installed, as well as GinManager™ and Press Manager automated touchscreen consoles. A full array of shaft monitors and air-point sensors were integrated into the logic scheme for ultimate automation. As well, soft-starts, VFDs and ethernet communications provide the backbone for what is now highly effective and reactive process controls, monitoring and efficiency.
In one singular step, Tunica Gin made the exodus from the limits of their past by taking a purposeful leap into the future of automation.
Our Relationships Speak for Themselves
"There’s no doubt we’re getting more production from our number four gin stand. It’s staying in the ginning position more than ever!"
